Barriers to Letting God into Our Lives - 24 Oct 10Barriers to Letting God into Our Lives

Fr Steve Voyt

The Gospel today (Luke 18:9-14) asks us a simple question, “Why is it that we go to church?”  In the Gospel it’s the Temple but for us its, "Why is it that we go to church?  Why is it that we pray?  What are we trying to do?"  Hopefully the answer would be to renew and strengthen my relationship with God.  But many times things get in the way of relationships.

One of the first and foremost things that get in the way is pride, where we sit back and say, “I’m really pretty good.  I’m really pretty great.  I really don’t need much of anybody’s help because I’m so good on my own.”  We do that with people and sometimes we do it with God.  But if we’re honest with ourselves, we need to admit how much we have that relationship with God.  So, let us pause to reflect on those things that put up barriers from our truly recognizing the need to invite God into our lives.
