Opening Prayer

God of life and love,
We lift our hearts to you
in praise and thanksgiving.
We bless you for the goodness and beauty of creation,
for the rhythm of sunrises and sunsets,
for the patterns of color
and texture of growing things
that sustain our hope in the abundance
of what is to come.
We bless you for the landscape of our lives,
for our successes and failures,
for the friends and enemies
who weave a mosaic through our horizon.
We praise you for all your works.
We ask for grateful hearts and a spirit of generosity.
Free us from being stingy
with our words of praise and affirmation
and our acts of forgiveness.
Open us to the abundance of life and love you set
before us. Amen.

Opening Prayer During Lent

Let us pray that this Lent will help us reproduce in our lives the self-sacrificing love of Christ.

Father, through our observance of Lent, help us to understand the meaning of your Son's death and resurrection, and teach us to reflect it in our lives.  Grant this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.  Amen.

Alternate Opening Prayer During Lent

Let us pray, at the beginning of Lent for the spirit of repentance.

Lord our God, you formed us from the clay of the earth and breathed into us the spirit of life, but we turned from your face and sinned.

In this time of repentance we call out for your mercy.  Bring us back to you and to the life your Son won for us by his death on the cross,
for he lives and reigns for ever and ever.

Fill the Hearts of Your Faithful

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and kindle in us the fire of your love. Send forth your Spirit and we shall be created and you will renew the face of the earth. O God, who by the light of the Holy Spirit instructs the hearts of the faithful, grant that by that same Spirit we may be ever wise and rejoice in His consolations. Through Jesus Christ Our Lord, Amen.

Open Our Hearts

Lord God, open our hearts to your word and give us the courage to respond in faith.  You who live and reign, for ever and ever.  Amen.

Fill the Hearts of Your Faithful

Come, Holy Spirit, fill the Hearts of your faithful; and kindle in them the fire of your love.  Amen.

Show Us How to Gather

Lord Jesus, you have called us as your own in Baptism, and you have gathered us here this day to understand more deeply the mystery of your love for us.  Show us how to gather in your name, so that we might worship you in spirit and in truth.  You who live and reign, for ever and ever.  Amen.

Speak to Us

All-powerful God, in the fullness of time, you spoke your Word who took on human flesh and saved us from our sins.  Speak to us now in  a living word, a word that touches our hearts and fills us with love.  We ask this in the name of Jesus your Son, the Living Word come down from heaven, who lives and reigns for ever and ever.  Amen.

Mindful of our Baptism

Lord Jesus, at your baptism in the Jordan River, the Father sent the Holy Spirit upon you in the form of a dove, as a sign that you are his beloved Son.  Help us today to be mindful of our Baptism, when we were chosen as beloved children of the Father, anointed with the Holy Spirit, and given a share in your risen life.  We ask you this, Lord Jesus, who lives and reigns for ever and ever.  Amen

Renew the Gift of Your Holy Spirit

Gentle Jesus, the Gospels tell us how you gathered the children to yourself, laying your hands on them and blessing them.  You also laid hands on the sick and others possessed by demons, dispelling all evils of body and spirit.  Lay your hands on us this day, loving Lord, and renew within us the gift of your Holy Spirit, poured out in our hearts on the day of our Baptism.  We ask you this, who lives and reigns for ever and ever.  Amen.

Fill the Hearts of the Faithful

Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful, and kindle in them the fire of your love.  Send forth your Spirit and they shall be created, and you will renew the face of the earth.  We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns for ever and ever.  Amen.

Let me be an Instrument of Your Peace

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace.  Where there is hatred, let me sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; and where there is sadness, joy.  Grant that we may not so much seek to be consoled as to console; to be understood, as to understand; to be loved as to love; for it is in giving that we receive, it is in pardoning that we are pardoned, and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.  Amen

Our Priesthood

Heavenly Father, by sharing in the Eucharist which your Son commanded us to offer as his memorial, may we become, with him, an everlasting gift to you.  We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns for ever and ever.  Amen.

Awaken Our Faith

God our Father, you sent your Son into the world to be its true light.  Pour out the Holy Spirit to awaken our faith and help us share the Gospel with others.  WE ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.  Amen.

RCIA Prayer

Come, Holy Sprit, fill the hearts of your faithful and enkindle in them the fire of your love.  Send forth your Spirit and they shall be created and you shall renew the face of the earth.  O, God, who has instructed the heats of your faithful by the light of the Holy Spirit, grant that by the same Holy Spirit we may have a right judgment in all things and evermore rejoice in his consolations.  Through Christ our Lord.  Amen.
